Unhappy From: WIN 98 Forum

Pop is back w/ a new problem.
Since upgrading from win95 to win98, I have experienced a few config. problems most of which have been resolved on this site. Remaining one relates to US Robotics 10/100 PCI NIC card which performed well under win95.
Since my "upgrade", it stopped working...no network connection. Have tried it in different expansion slots; no go; windows tells me:

"WINDOW Stopped responding while attempting to start this divice. (Code 11). Windows will never attempt to start this device again".

Tried to replace w/ LINKSYS 10/100 EtherFast adapter, but it require faster (200Mhz +) processor than I have--mine is AMD comparable to Basic Pentium
and install hangs up. Plan to return Linksys.

Is their a "slower" NIC card available? Might my problem be IRQ related?
Any suggestions on how to get back on network? need more complete statement of the problem?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Preplexed Pop

Are we talking Windows 98, 98SE or ME? Your best bet would be to try and find drivers for the NIC you have that are listed as working with Windows 98. If you can't then I would look for a NIC that is supported under Windows 98 as they aren't hard to find.

Thanks for tip. OS is vanilla Win98. New NIC on it's way. Will report back on degree of success.

Nic

Stepped down to Belkin 32 bit PCI card.
System (Windows 98 4.10.1998) recognized new card right away. Install proceeded well w/Belkin drivers on their CD. When win98 CD was called for install halted. Could not find a specific driver "dhcpsvc.dll" on Win98 CD.
That's surprising!
Is there a way to download this file from MS site (on my network connected PC)?? It shows up on a number of their sites, but oddly not on WIN98 site.
At a stalemate here.
Any help will be appreciated

econopop,
That isn't a driver at all but rather a windows service. The dhcp client service to be exact. It is odd that it wouldn't be on your Windows 98 cd but you can find it HERE for download. Just follow the directions on the page and you should be all set. Hope this helps and post back if you run into trouble.

Smile To Badwayz

Once again you nailed it for me. Many thanks.
Reason files not on Win98 "Install", was that it was "upgrade" from win95, rather than complete new install.

Glad things worked out for you pop. Thanks for posting back and also for telling me is was an upgrade rather than a full install heheh that had my scratching my head for a min. At any rate I'm happy to help and if you ever need anything or wish to post feel free.
