Wi-fi connection problems

I am currently sharing a wi-fi connection with my neighbour to save costs while attending school. My problem is the signal is weak sometimes. Is there some type of USB booster or something i can plug into my notebook to boost the signal?? I am currently just using the wifi card that came installed with my system, its an antheros 802.11b/g card.

I do not have a router or repeater or anything i am just connecting to the network via my notebook. I am hoping not to have to buy a router or repeater as well to save money.

Any help would be great, thanks

So you have a notebook, but you are using your neighbour's internet through his wireless router? How far are you from this neighbour?

There are some external antennas you can buy but most of the time they are proprietary. What kinda of wireless card do you have.
