Problems networking between 2 computers.

I have 2 computers, one upstairs and one downstairs and comcast broadband, i bought a router recently and they are both connected to the router by ethernet cords but only one works. The one downstairs (away from modem) is not recieving internet while the one im on now is working just fine. I am clueless as to what i am doing wrong, hopefully some of you can help me. I have a NetGear router if that matters. I spent around three hours wiring the stupid thing underneath the house just for it to not work, any help is appriciated thanks.

You put the router under the house? First thing you can do is give a lay out of your network. I'm not clear on how you have things setup. Give examples of where the router is, what kind of cable is used to go from the router to computers and how the cable is run in the house. Just a basic idea of how you have things setup would help.

What OS are you running?

First thing I would do is open the command window (start-run-cmd) and type "ipconfig /all".
Post your that info.

Make sure your ip settings of the pc that doesn't work are on automatic (if the dhcp of your router is enabled, wich most likely will be the case).

Your utp cable could be damaged. You have to have a straight cable between your router and your pc (crossed could also work but I'm not sure).
