Gone Crazy With DIRECTX

Hi guys i tried installing directx 9.0c on my friends PC Which has already Directx 9.0. but the installation will not continue it will tell me to accept the agreement then to click next. next step will come out as Installed but nothing will get installed. tried a complete reinstall of windows xp but still the problem is there
The specs are
Intel P4 2.8 HT
Intel 915GEV motherboard
Windows XP WITH SP2
Please tell me how to solve this problem.
and can i remove the directx completely and reinstall?

Windows XP SP2 comes with DirectX 9c update.
