reinstall win98 choices
I need to reinstall win 98 as my system misplaced my vmm32.vxd file, however when I go through the installation process I am given 3 choices...1: install windows, 2: delete and reinstall windows, or 3: format and reinstall windows. I wish to retain information on my system if posible, any suggestions. thanks

Choice 1 will install Windows over top of the current installation. Essentially, that replaces all Windows files with new copies. Your data should not be affected but you will have to get all Windows updates again. I've done this sort of over-the-top install numerous times and never lost any data but there are no guarantees. You may have to reinstall some of your programs, although I've never had to.
Choice 2 will delete Windows and install a new copy. It should not affect your data but, again, no guarantees. Choice 3 will wipe everything off the harddrive, all programs, all your data, everything and then reinstall Windows. This is not the one you want to do. |

Thanks for the info. I have tried choice one, but I get a warning saying I already have an operating system, and it won't let me write over it. Maybe I'll try #2 next. Thanks again for the info.
