Help Needed to Locate DLL to allow install Word 2002

I need help finding version 2.40.4277.1 of ASYCFILT.dll. I am trying to install Word 2002 on husband's computer but get MS error message 25006 - word needs updated system file. The only place I have found the version of the dll I need is in IE 5.5 in the OAINST.exe file (according to Microsoft Knowledge Base). Our computers have the latest version of IE installed. Can I install a later version of the OAINST.exe file or do I have to have exactly this ONE? I'd appreciate any help you can give me. :wave:

In this Microsoft Knowledge Base article (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;301064), are these instructions (they refer to Office XP but it should be the same, or similar, for Word 2002):

1. Insert your CD-ROM for your Microsoft Office XP program. Hold down SHIFT to stop Setup from automatically starting, or click Cancel when Setup runs.
2. Click Start, point to Programs, and then click Windows Explorer.
3. Open your CD-ROM drive, and then navigate to the following folder:
drive\Files\Osp\1033\IE5\En
4. Double-click Oainst.exe to install the OLE automation update. The following files will be installed:
• Advpack.dll
• Oainst.inf
• Asycfilt.dll
• Oleaut32.dll
• Olepro32.dll
• Stdole2.tlb
• Regtlib.exe
• W95inf32.dll
• W95inf16.dll
5. Run Setup again.

Thanks for the reply! I don't have an Office XP disk. My husband has an OEM version of an old office program and I have inserted the CD in the drive, but some file can't be found that it needs to locate. I have XP installed on my computer and have a newer version of the ASY...dll file but the error message specifically requests version 2.40.4277.1. I was afraid to mix an XP dll with a Win98 dll. My version is 5.***. Would it be okay to substitute that one when it asks for the 2.40 number?

I was trying to find it also Murf. That version is 2.30.4265.
I found her version but it was bundled with other programs.
She needs 2.40.4277.1. I searched all the dll help sites.
This mentioned version was seen in NT and W95 apps. 95??
I'll search a little more also.

This is one I saw from M$:
Release manifest for MDAC 2.5 Service Pack 2 (2.52.6019.2) (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;842276)
It's bundled in there.;)

I also found a version of the dll but it is in IE5.5 but I don't know how to get to it since we have the latest versions of IE on our computers.

That is a strange dll indeed. Bundled with IE5.5 is same as I thought weird to react with Win95.:eek: Keep surf'n:michaelan
