I clean install win 98 in my computer since them my modem don't work also I don't have any option for 256 color I only have 16 colors and 2 colors.
I tried to Install modem drivers but the CD Rom don't have the correct driver also I removed the modem to find out the make and model , The only writing it had on it was " Jaton Explorer 56 plus
FC Ex56P0000091 "
Is that the make of the modem ??????????
Also how do I restore the colors. ????????
When I try to go on the Internet I get the following message " ERROR 630, not receving a respond from the modem , check if plugged in and if necessary turn the modem off and turn it on again "
Thanks for any help.:disgust:

That modem is no longer supported by Jaton. I found a driver that may work, it's in German but doesn't make a difference. Try downloading and installing THIS ONE (http://www.treiberupdate.de/treiber-download/z-dltreiber/download_treiber.php?load=10983).
The video problem is because you do not have the right drivers. Also you may want to download and run EVEREST (http://www.lavalys.com/products/download.php?pid=1&lang=en) it will identify everything in your computer including the video card.

I download the driver but it did not work and with EVEREST I have to get connected to the internet before I download it because its over 2mb .
Thanks

Hi,
When I reinstaled my son's OS 98 The Modem was switched of , you will have to go in to the BIOS and chack that the modem is switched on.

I strongly support Everest as well. If you have access to another computer with online capability, put it on a CD. It's well worth burning and not using it for any other purpose other than Everest and Drivers. My other suggestion for your driver may be DriverGuide.com. They seem to have a lot of older drivers on the site. Good luck!

Another modem driver link...

I also use Everest. Excellent program for finding info about your computer. If you can't burn the setup file onto a cd, split the file and put it on floppies.

You can split the file as Rockboy said, here is a good file splitting program. That way you can put on floippies.

working in 16 colours is no fun, so let's find out about that videocard
like so...
VIDEOCARD DETECT
If you cannot identify your video card, you can run the following without opening the case to get an idea of the manufacturer and make:
1. From a DOS prompt, Win 3.x, Win9x, WinNT, or Win2K command prompt type DEBUG and press Enter.
2. A single dash will appear at which point type DC000:35 and then press Enter
( DC000:40 DC000:50 and DC000:90 may also work for newer cards).
3. You may need to type D at the second dash and press Enter for all of the information to appear.
You can type D more than once to see more info appear.
4. Q to exit
