Hi, I have an old pentium Thinkpad 760L with no OS. It has a built-in floppy drive and no cd-rom. I attached an external cd-rom to it and loaded the Win 98se setup disk, ie cd-rom drivers. However the machine did not recognize the external cd-rom after this. So my question is about how I can install Win 98se on this laptop? thanks for your help! rondos

Welcome to CTH:

Go HERE (http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm)

Download the file Windows 98 SE (http://1gighost.net/randyboy/boot98sc.exe) Custom, No Ramdrive After download double click on it (have a clean blank folppy in) it will expand the boot files to this floppy.

Now boot the lappy with this boot disk, it should load the cdrom driver. Watch the screen if it finds it will assign a drive letter to it.

It took a while, but I finally downloaded the referenced file; there seems to be a problem, this link must not point to Windows 98se, because it prints out a message, "NTLDR is missing". Prior to inserting this disk, I created a FAT32 partition and formatted it from the Win 98se setup disk. Any further suggestions welcomed. thanks, ron
