I was running spybot s%d and cleaned up a lot of stuff, it asked if i wanted to run it before startup when i rebooted for some programs it missed, i clicked yes, restarted the machine(win 98SE) went to get something and came back in 10 minutes, the screensaver was on i moved the mouse and it had crashed and had a message "explorer deleted you must reinstall windows" i turn on my computer again and it turns on loads the dsktop but then i get the error message about explorer.exe and i can't get off of it.

Is there anything i can do besides reinstalling it? I do have another computer, is there anyway i can load it up somehow?

and i don't have a windows disk for that computer its only a recovey disk.

You might try loading the IE on a CD and transferring. You can also get it on the Microsoft website I believe. Reinstalling it is the only way I've ever gotten to repair the error you report.

Hi sdp,

Since you don't mention it, can you get to Safe Mode (hold down CTRL key during restart)?

Use a boot floppy (if you don't have one, download a file that will make one from BootDisk (http://www.bootdisk.com) to boot up. If the computer ignores the floppy, you'll need to get into the BIOS to move the floppy drive up to first in the boot order.

Once it has booted to the A: prompt, type "scanreg /restore" (without the quotes), press the Enter key. It will display the last five registry copies it made. Choose the most recent one that booted successfully.

An easier way to do that is BOOT UP AND PRESS F8 until you get a menu, then press 5 .. Then @ the prompt, enter scanreg/restore

Good Luck :)
