 hi, I am getting worried about free space.

Local disk C: reports free space is : 3.77 GB.
Used space is: 5.72 GB.
Capacity: 9.49 Gb.
So I am running out of space and my pc has slowed down.
My system is in good shape. Hijack this shows no bugs. Running Processes' have been checked. Loaded and running in msconfig has been checked. I have lots of webshots on my pc, I know this takes up a lot of space, but, I would rather get rid of other things. I don't use any networking and they are all over the place. I dont know, i just don't know.

This is the specs for my pc::fyi:

MS 2000 Prof.
OS: Win NT
Browser: IE6//Firefox
5.0.2195 Srvc Pak 4 build 2195
Phoenix Bios v.6
Total Mem. 228,848 KB
Availabe Mem. 73,724 KB
Virtual Mem. 1,711,200 KB
Modem: Broadxent v.92

What can anyone tell me about what I can end, even if it is one thing. Any suggestions?

Here is 3 svchost's listed ?????
Startup and running processes have been checked.
But here is a list of running processes:
C:\WINNT\System32\smss.exe
C:\WINNT\system32\winlogon.exe
C:\WINNT\system32\services.exe
C:\WINNT\system32\lsass.exe
C:\PROGRA~1\SYMANT~1\SYMANT~1\DefWatch.exe
C:\PROGRA~1\SYMANT~1\SYMANT~1\Rtvscan.exe
C:\WINNT\system32\svchost.exe
C:\Program Files\Analog Devices\SoundMAX\SMAgent.exe
C:\WINNT\system32\svchost.exe
C:\WINNT\system32\MSTask.exe
C:\WINNT\System32\WBEM\WinMgmt.exe
C:\WINNT\Explorer.EXE
C:\Program Files\SBC Yahoo!\Connection Manager\ConnectionManager.exe
C:\PROGRA~1\SYMANT~1\SYMANT~1\vptray.exe

C:\PROGRA~1\Webshots\webshots.scr

I found with 256 Meg Ram I shouldn't run Nortons 2003 - 2005. I run a corporate version as it is way less bloatware.

I have found that in my IT ways that webshots is a huge a$$ memory sucker and when given the chance I remove it.

Can you creat a partition and put your pagefile.sys on the extended? I know it supposed to be on a seperate physical drive but this does work.

Svchosts I would check this out. "hxxp://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/svchost/".

"Winmgmt.exe is a core component of client management in Windows. This process initializes when the first client application connects or continuously when management applications request its services.

Note: The winmgmt.exe file is located in the c:\windows\System32 folder. In other cases, winmgmt.exe is a virus, spyware, trojan or worm!"

when you turn msn/yahoo off does that make a difference?

Lemme know how it goes.

I would put more RAM in if you can and also think about getting a bigger hard drive. If you plan to keep webshots then more RAM and drive speace would make you a happy camper. I know this means spending money but sometimes we outgrow our computers faster than we think we can.

pwrmngr I am checking out the links you have written and i thank you for them. I have never done a partition on a page file so I will have to research that unless you want to advise me there. WinMngt seems to go either way. it could be necessary or it could be uselss at this point. I don't know. I have checked other sites and the opinions vary. I have to get various opinions because I am slick enough about my pc to ruin it.

badwayz, thank You for your response. More ram I think would be the way to go. I keep my webshots because when I have to escape I look at pictures.

To be honest with you, your not running out of space. You have a 10Gigabyte hard drive and 4Gigabytes
are free, that's 40% of the hard drive is free space.

Open Control Panel
Internet Options...
Advanced(tab)
scroll to the bottom and put a checkmark on "Empty Temporary Internet Files when browser is closed"
open an Internet Explorer, then close it...wait for the hard drive to stop making noise and then check
your free space.

You can also open up the search
Start
Search
For Files or Folders...
and search "C:" for
*.tmp;*.chk;*.hst
and delete all found.

You can also go to
C:\Documents and Settings\{username}\Local Settings\Temp
and delete the entire contents in there.

Change the location go here.

hxxp://www.petri.co.il/pagefile_optimization.htm

also I agree 100% with Spider on cleaning ure system as I do mine about 4 times a week. Also you may wanna set it so when you restart ure pc to have it deleted the pagefile.sys. It takes awhile long to reboot but you have a clean one everytime.
