How do I change my port connection thingy?

Ok, i admit, i suuuuuck at computers....I have to change my port or sumthing to play this one game....here's a guy's instructions:

For a challenge to work correctly both computers connect using port 1626, if you are running a firewall or using a router and you are having problems connecting to a challenge you will need to open up port number 1626. The best way to do this is name a new port “Blah Blah” so you can tell what it is (it does not have to be Blah Blah) and then open the port number 1626 for UDP; open it for both incoming and outgoing. If you are running Windows XP SP2, then you will automatically have a firewall on (unless you or someone else turned it off) to open the port in Windows XP, do the following. Click on “Start” then on “Control Panel”, click on “Security Center” to open up your firewall/updates/virus settings. Look down under “Manage Security Settings for:” then click on the “Windows Firewall” icon. A new dialog box will open up entitled “Windows Firewall”, click on the “Exceptions” tab at the top, then click on the “Add Port…” button. A second dialog will open, under name, type in anything you want but I suggest “Robot Rage” so you know what it is, under Port Number type in 1626, then select “UDP” and then click on “OK”. You then should have a Robot Rage (if you named it that) in your “Programs and Services” list with a check box next to it checked. This will allow both incoming and outgoing messages using port 1626.

But I don't think those instructions were meant for windows 98....plz cyber computer geniuses, help me...ty for ur time

You're right, those instructions are for opening a port in the Windows XP firewall.

How do you connect to the internet (dialup, cable, DSL, something else)? Do you use a router? If so, what is the make and model?

Are you running a software firewall? If so, which one (Zone Alarm, Sygate, Norton, something else)?

Norton produces an Norton Antivirus which is not a firewall and Norton Internet Security and Norton Personal Firewall, both of which are firewalls. What is listed on the Start Menu>Programs under Norton (might be Symantec, which is the company that produces Norton software)?

If you're using a router or a combination DSL modem/router, you'll need to open a port...called Port Forwarding...in the router. How that's done depends on the kind of router you have and is explained in the manual that comes with the router.

Unless we know exactly what software and hardware you have that are capable of blocking ports, there's no way we can help you open one of those ports.
