A buddy of mine heard you can do this if your tank is outside, and this will keep it from freezing. (if your Furnace is set up for fuel oil) I know that you can get a different nozzle to burn straight kero. I has never heard of this before. Is this possible. I know they are similar, but I thought the burner, nozzle, and such would have to be set up right.

Don't try it. Even with a different orifice.
Not only will things clog up in a heartbeat, you'll probably die.

Think about fixing something else http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/smile.gif

Thanks. He has electric heat. $$$$$$!. He had seen a used rig with tank, for sale and has thought about buying. He has no basement to put the tank in, and had heard this would work. I will pass this along.

I've worked in HVAC for quite a few years. Can't begin to tell you the nutz stuff I've seen people do to try to save a buck, or try to increase efficiency. Most end in my coming out to replace systems, or - worst case - to remodel a fairly ruined house.

But the $ is good!!

Update:
I lost a bet on this, (I agreed with zipulrich) so my curiousity was aroused. I asked a guy I worked with about it and he said he mixes his all the time. 50% K1/50%Fuel Oil. He went as far as to say, if you call your local distributor, and tell them you want a 50/50 fill up, this is what they will bring you. I was a little doubtful about this so, I did just that. I called a couple local companies amd asked them, What does a 50/50 fill up mean? they all said, 50%K1/50% fuel oil, a very common request it seems. I asked what changes do you need to make to your burner? They all said none. One went as far as to say that K1 acts as a good cleaner for the lines, nozzle etc,. You learn something every day. http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/smile.gif

Sorry, NeoGeek.....I should have looked further. It's not "kosher" in my local codebook. Things are different in different areas.
I still wouldn't mess with it, though.

I've never mixed fuel oils together but several years ago I mixed two type of swimming pool chlorine together in a plastic container and added water. From a safe distance I watched the container foam for about 3 to 4 minutes then there was an explosion that brought all of my neighbors out of their houses and apartments. It was as loud as a stick of dynamite. Then the chlorine tablets that were scattered around the yard started going off like fire crackers.

Yeah, we were having a swimming/BBQ party at the time. There was at least 15 to 20 people here.

For several years afterward my wife gave me a bad time about not reading the instructions and warnings on the chlorine containers.

Hey!, at least the cops didn't show up.....
