cd rom not detected in my computer

my cd rom does not show when i click on my computer icon it used to be there and i am running windows 98se how can i fix this problem? :upset:

1. Have you been inside your case lately? If so, reseat cd drive and mobo cable and power supply plug.
2. Does your cd drive show in device manager and does it show, under properties. that device is working properly.
3. Try removing cdrom in device properties and see if Windows detects it on a reboot.
4. These have been know to go bad before but lets play around first.

Basic Q's.
WHen did it work properly?
When did it stop working properly?
What was done between these times?

If it quit working in last couple of days, after checking the above suggestions.
try a boot to dos and type c:\scanreg/restore
From a list of 5 last good boots, choose one prior to problem or if that is not known, just use oldest date to restore and backtrack from there.
