Hi!
I'm using Windows 98 SE as the Operating system. My system configuration is as follows Intel P-4, 1.2GHZ processor, Intel 845GV motherboard, 256MB DDR RAM. Since last few days I am experiencing a very peculiar problem, whenever I right click on any file or folder I get " performed an illegal operation" error and the system shuts down. Even on using the control-c to copy a file the same error is displayed and it shuts down the system. If right clicked on an empty area of the desktop the same symptom occurs.I can open folders, use any of the installed programs but cannot use right click How do I go about solving this problem ??:dizzy:

some longshots - run any virus/spyware scans recently? If not, try that. Also try going into safemode to see if you can right click. Try deleting the files in your temp and temporary internet folder.

Here (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;319581) is one MS reference. Might apply. Also, the reference remarks on a shell object issue, so it is possible a restore would take the registry back to before whatever changed.
