I'm my display properties, in the colors drop down menu, I'm currently on High color (16 bit). I also have 16 colors, 256 colors and True color 32 bit. Which should I be on? Thanks

The more bits, the truer the color. Anything over 256 is ok but I prefer 32bit
or 24bit true color settings. Some games may crash with 32 true bit but very few these days.

Is this determined by the kind of OS I have or what my screen is capable of? I want to know what I should set it at.

Determined by the monitor and the video drivers. Either 16bit or 32bit true color will work. Try it on True color 32bit, may or may not see a difference. Do you have a LCD monitor (thin one)? Or a CRT?

I have a Crt flat screen. I have it on 16 bit right now.

Up the setting to True Color (32bit), Apply, then reboot.
See if you can tell the difference. Probably not.

Got this info off a game (??) Easy Tank Combat: (I don't play video games)
Running ETC in the "True Color (32 bit)" mode will slow everything and you will get no better display. ETC can not execute in the 256 Color or 24 bit display modes.
So that leaves....da daaaa...True Color 16 bit.
You have to experiment or have good directions.
You can't blow it up by trying.
Good luck.
