hey guys, long story short both win xp and win 98se went wrong within a week so i reformated the d Drive with win xp on and left c drive (win 98se). reinstalled win 98se because every time i closed a program i'd get an error followed by an explorer error and have to reboot. now that i've reinstalled win 98se i cant delete the connect to the internet file and online services folder on the desktop. the error says Cannot delete file: file system error (1026). please help.

Exit Windows and choose the option to re-start in DOS mode (not a DOS box in Windows).
At the command prompt, navigate to the desktop folder (C:\Windows\Desktop)
Use the DIR command to see what DOS names are used for the Desktop shortcuts, since DOS cannot display long filenames over 8 characters in length so it shortens them). You should be able to recognise the two you wish to delete. Use the DEL command, then a space, followed by the DOS filename. Note also that DOS displays the DOT in the filename as a space, but you should type it as a dot (full stop).

in ms-dos mode i deleted the directory of online services but the empty folder is still on the desktop, and ms-dos cannot find the connect to the internet exe.
