The gun culture in the US and UK is getting totally out of hand. In the UK a guy had a sword, and was walking towards the cops and they shot him dead.I thought the cops were supposed to be trained to cope in different situations. It appears the training is noway good enough.

he deserved to be shot...I have absolutely no pity for the kid. When I originally saw another unedited clip on my local channel, the boy was going after cops with the earthmover.

IMO, cops don't do enough shooting.

Police are not trained to wound anyone. They are trained to aim and shoot at the chest area.

That kid could have easily killed/seriously injured any innocent by-stander(s) and he did not respond to any reasoning. Imho the officers were protecting themselves and members of the public. If he hadn't stolen the earthmover he wouldn't be in the predicament he is now.

Moorlander. The sword you mention was a Samurai sword and he was approaching the officers in a threatening manner. He did not respond to any reasoning and was therefore shot. What would you have done?

for what its worth dept.

being paralyzed is for sure a pretty harsh punishment in any crime.

i work with heavy equipment. and a scraper. <earth mover> is very unforgiving if not handled properly. they are every bit as powerful as a bull dozer. only thing is they run faster.

at the present time. i operate a motor grader. <road grader> i maintain about 50 miles of dirt road for a township, of a county. what i am getting at here is. it seems that people just do not care about the rights of others. for i find that someone has dumped new trash just about every day along my route some where. its not one person dumping, its not two persons dumping. i know it to be over 5 because not even an idiot has 5 refrigerators, and thats how many of those i have along side the road some where along my route.
point being. people <in part> seem to have no respect, honor, or dignity anymore.

watch tv sometime, and just look at the games they sell for the kids now days.. the last one i saw was "Grand Theft Auto" .

So i think there's a lot more to blame than just the cops.

IMO.

thanks for the space.

What was wrong with shooting in the shoulder to disable or both shoulders for that matter there is no need to kill.If they arnt that good a shot they should not have a gun.Its blast away and ask quetions later.

Wasn't it possible to set up one of those thing that blows the tires out? Some cops got that thing where it sends an electric shock up the vehicle to shortcircuit the engine and cut it off. They probably couldn't cordinate fast enough get it on the road in time. Still a cop has many more options then to shot the kid I feel. This situation was too much to ask a cop to act more humane I s'pose.

Please dont get me wrong, yes it is terrible that the kid got shot. i don't like the thought of it either.
you asked about the spikes for the tires. the tires on a scraper,<earth mover> i doubt would even be phased by the spike strips. they run over things all day, that are just about, if not more jagged than the strips. and as far as the electrical shortcircuiting of the engine. its diesel. and they do not use any electricity to run. The only way to shut a diesel down is basically shutting off the fuel.

Let us be thankful for the fools. But for them the rest of us could not succeed.

I am sorry if I am not up to today’s standards, or morals. I don't really see any morals. And what standards I see focuses around what I call "Me'ism"

It seems to me that more, and more people <not all> have, and take pride in deceptive, dishonest, and deliberate, acts/actions against the unaware, and vulnerable.

Pride, and Self Gain, come at the expense of another’s loss.

Its all about ME, and screw You attitudes.

Here, think about this one. I have.

The war on drugs. Why? Could it be Drugs cause crime?

I know damn good and well I could take the crime out of it in a week.

People that want to do Drugs,, are going to do Drugs.

Some city governments give out syringes and needles to the heroin addicts. So that the spread of diseases are minimized to some degree.

They cant stop them using so at least make their drug use a little safer.

With that theory in mind.

The government could give the drugs <cocaine> <heroin> and so forth to the ones that want to use.

Educate the children, and keep the help programs that are there for the ones that want help. But give the crap to the ones that don’t want help. Give it to them, there will be no more need to break into the little old ladies house down the street. Or what other manner of theft goes on for money to by the drugs. People are going to do drugs regardless of any laws.

The war on Drugs, is all about crime so they say. If you look at it.

Give the drugs to those that want them and let them destroy themselves. Or. Keep things as they are, and let the innocent be harmed by the ones wanting drugs.

Seems pretty simple to me.

I read talk of the gun laws. Why is it that its always the gun, and never the person holding it. Why can’t we as a people anymore hold people responsible for their actions.

Its always the rights of the criminal when caught. The victims rights didn’t matter to the one committing the crime.

O J Simpson. Innocent till proven guilty. Bull She-it, it cost O J ten million dollars to prove his innocents. So why doesn’t he get his money back. Innocent till proven guilty.

Two stores, robbed at the same time. On opposite sides of town. Same amount of money stolen. Both armed robbery, and no one hurt.

Two different courts. Two different judges, there will be two different sentences.

What it boils down to is this….

If you can get away with something, do it. Just don’t get caught, and that makes it all right.

I had a friend of mine not long ago, who is into computers, and good at them. Tell me that she doubted that the internet would even be usable within the next 5 yrs because of all the spying hacking jacking wormin Trojan viruses etc.. I think that she may be right.

Did not mean to go over board here, but just needed to vent I suppose.

Just an ole stick in the mud,, Roxie

Thanks for the space .

A quick search found this on knife threats (and we're not even talking swords here) http://www.recguns.com/Sources/XI3.html. I have read more detailed explanations previously but I don't remember where. A person with a knife needs to be shot to be stopped as quickly as possible. That means disrupting the central nervous system if possible which has death as an unfortunate consequence.

And just how were the cops supposed to stop an earth mover without getting killed?

The average cop is no marksman as now days as more emphasis is put on diversity through hiring, liability issues training, and ethnic diversity training. Firearms is not high on the priority list. Look at the physical size of many cops now. Achieving compliance by hands on physical force is not easy with the small stature of many of todays cops. Size and strength requirments were done away with to achieve diversity. If the public wants diversity that strongly, then it has to accept the results. You can't expect a 110 lb female to subdue a 200 lb bad guy with her physical ability. She will have to go to plan B or C and shoot the *******.
I was going to post in the hardware forum as I'm strongly considering the purchase of some new hardware, but I guess I will post here. What do you think of this model?

A couple of years ago, a deranged guy stole an earth mover from Reno,NV and started heading to California on the freeway!! The cops tried shooting the tires, not!! The bullets bounced off. The only way they ended up stopping it was when it ran out of fuel about 100 miles out. On the way through, the guy ran over quite a few cars, trucks and etc. If he had run over a car with people in it, they wouldn't have had a chance. This guy ended up causing over a million dollars in damage on the way through.

Another case is the guy that armor plated his bulldozer and wreaked havoc up in Washington state (I think). The police finally ended it by climbing up on the bulldozer and shooting the guy through the air holes.

My point is, if the police have an opportunity to shut someone down in this type of scenario they should do so. An earth mover or bulldozer is nothing to mess with and can cause so much death and destruction on the way through. The bottom line is that the police have a primary duty to protect the public. Could you imagine the uproar if either of these had killed bystanders?

Just my two cents worth...

Once they shot him the chance of him killing someone with that machine was 0%.
The cops saved lives that day and nothing else.
