Health Tips

Just looking for some health tips to exchange on the board, here's all I know.
  1. No cokes/carbonated beverages. If that is a problem none past 6pm
  2. Take vitamins and drink lots of water, herbal tea, or juices.
  3. Intake more vegetable/fruits. I figure, I'll start with fruits and gradually work my way to vegetables.
  4. Do as much as possible to NOT eat too much sugar.
  5. Don't eat at fast food restaurants again but, if that is a problem once a month is acceptable.
  6. Get at least 30 minutes of exercise a day, going at your own pace.
  7. If you are a jogger, during rest periods keep your hands above your head to allow your lungs to breathe easier.
Thats about all I have in basic knowledge hope some of you guys got some to contribute. A healthy body is key to a healthy mind.

P.S. Please, I beg you be sincere in your reply.

Vercades thank you. I must say I did expect something else
and was very pleasantly surprised by your advice.
These health tips of yours are excellent and I do live by
them (though jucies and certain fruits do contain a lot of sugar -
but once a week would be ok for me) .
Thank you

Hang on. It's taking me a while to figure out if I do any of these things.
Posted in another thread that I don't drink straight water. Diet sodas,
skim milk, OJ, tea, coffee, etc.
I'm in good health despite my bad habits. Just goes to show that genetics play a big part in how ones body shapes up....or down....or wide....or thin.
5'11", 172lbs, low cholesterol (high HDL, low LDL)...genetics.
I have complete blood workups every 3 months with VA and so far so good.
Salt is my main prob from fast foods (microwave). I don't cook so my choices are only limited by what's in the grocery freezers. Some canned items, again, loaded with salt, of course.
Oh, yeah, I did start riding my bike about 5-6 miles a day. That count?
I'll try harder. I think about all that good stuff you said, but then I just lie on the couch watching TV until the feeling goes away.
Thanks for the info.

The general idea was to get to know good health habits of the people here. Its always easier to replace a bad habit with a good one. I'm just looking for little tips here and there that people learn from their experiences.

Thanks for replying.

Sorry. Read too fast and just thought they were your tips for us.
I was sincere though with what I said.
Here's some good ones:
10 Essential Health Tips I thought they were worth mentioning.
Another good one, as I spoke of, get at least annual checkups. Depending on ones age and family back history has much to do with what kind of checkups to focus on.
Interesting:
"Cancer has passed heart disease as the number one killer in the US."

Early detection in any body is the main ingredient to good health.

Good health to all.

Yes Darth, I am lucky also to have good genes
and gratulations to your health status
the only thing I am absolutely against and never will use is a
Microwave oven, its not the radiation escape that I am worried about
but what radiation does to your blood cells.

Welsh healthy living

Q: I've heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life. Is this true?
A: Your heart is only good for so many beats, and that's it...don't waste them on exercise. Everything wears out eventually. Speeding up your heart will not make you live longer; that's like saying you can extend the life of your car by driving it faster. Want to live longer?

Take a nap.

Q: Should I cut down on meat and eat more fruits and vegetables?
A: You must grasp logistical efficiencies. What does a cow eat? Hay and corn. And what are these? Vegetables. So a steak is nothing more than an efficient mechanism of delivering vegetables to your system. Need grain?
Eat chicken. Beef is also a good source of field grass (green leafy vegetable).
And a pork chop can give you 100% of your recommended daily allowance of vegetable products.

Q: Should I reduce my alcohol intake?
A: No, not at all. Wine is made from fruit.. Brandy is distilled wine, that means they take the water out of the fruity bit so you get

even more of the goodness that way. Beer is also made out of grain.
Bottoms up!

Q: How can I calculate my body/fat ratio?
A: Well, if you have a body and you have body fat, your ratio is one to one.
If you have two bodies, your ratio is two to one, etc.

Q: What are some of the advantages of participating in a regular exercise program?
> A: Can't think of a single one, sorry. My philosophy is: No
Pain...Good

Q: Aren't fried foods bad for you?
A: YOU'RE NOT LISTENING!!!. Foods are fried these days in vegetable oil.
In fact, they're permeated in it. How could getting more vegetables be bad for you?

Q: Will sit-ups help prevent me from getting a little soft around
the middle?

A: Definitely not! When you exercise a muscle, it gets bigger. You should only be doing sit-ups if you want a bigger stomach.

Q: Is chocolate bad for me?
A: Are you crazy? HELLO ...... Cocoa beans .... another vegetable!!!
It's the best feel-good food around!

Q: Is swimming good for your figure?
A: If swimming is good for your figure, explain whales to me.

Q: Is getting in-shape important for my lifestyle?
A: Hey! 'Round' is a shape!

Well, I hope this has cleared up any misconceptions you may have had about food and diets and remember, "Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Chardonnay in one hand - strawberries in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming - WOO HOO! What a Ride! (yeah, I know the last bit was posted recently)
