Hello, can anyone please help me, every time now when I go to my email and try to open an attached document in word, I get a M/S visual basic box that says runtime error 5, invalid procedure call or argument, then when I go to click on the help button a box will pop up that is completely blank, my system is windows 2000, so now I am not able to open any attachment.

Are you not able to open any attachment or just word doc attachments? Have you made any changes in software or hardware lately? Are you up to date on all patches and updates for Windows 2k?

Hi Lonny. Can you open Word documents normally or is this just happening when trying from an Email attachment?

The error you are describing indicates Word's opening template "Normal.dot" has now got some VisualBasic for Applications (VBa) macro code and it isn't working.

The easiest way to solve this is to find "normal.dot" and rename it to "normal.old".

Hi Smurfy, is just happening when trying from an Email attachment. Where do I go from here to find "normal.dot" and rename it to "normal.old". and I want to say thank you to every one for your help!

Ok, well since it's only doing it from your email it's unlikely to be Word that is causing the problem so don't worry about normal.dot for now.

If you are using Outlook, try a repair (Help>Detect and Repair).
