Cleaned Computer..Now it is SUPER Slow???
Got a 2 year old 1.2 Gig P4 Intel Sony laptop. I just ran AdAware, Spybot, EWIDO Security Suite, and HiJack This on it! Did this for 5 hours. Cleaned it super good, No infections, blew out all Trojans, AdWare, Spyware, etc. Defragged (as it was fragmented really bad!!) I have Norton Systemworks on it also (has been since day one)

Now after doing all the theorectically "GOOD" stuff , it runs super slow????

Especially MS Outlook (2000?)? What could I have done?????

HELP!!!!! I am ready to throw this "piece of wood" across the room!!!

HELP!!!!

(thanks in advance)

Larry

Truthfully, I have no idea Larry and it will prove to be very difficult to backtrack unless you can perform a System Restore and start again. Even this may not help if you have deleted files that are not protected. That's the problem with unsupervised removal of items particularly after you have run multiple utilities.

You could try the fix in this (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;249767) article for your Outlook problem.

I thought I did what is considered appropriate? I do it to my computers all the time?

It is what I have read about for 2 years on all the Spyware/Adware forums? What did I do wrong (so I don't do it again!?)

I am confused???

But thanks for replying as NO ONE else has replied. I will have to upgrade to SR-1a and now SR-3 update. Thanks again for replying

I didnt mean to imply that you had done anything inappropriate Larry although unless you are an expert in reading Hijack This logs, this step always be done under supervision.

The problem with running multiple utilities is that if one has downloaded a bad definition and deleted a necessary registry entry or file (and this happens. Ad-Aware had a problem a little while ago and after running it, users could not log into XP), it is almost impossible to know which program is the culprit. We usually recommend running one utility than posting a Hijack This log to be analysed in our Cyber Safety Forum.

Got it. Thanks. Actually ran EWIDO, Ad Aware and SpyBot. Then ran defrag. No Hi Jack This. But I totally understand. Thanks for the clarification. Now if you could just help with javascript :)

Thanks

Nope, I havent a clue about Javascript. :)

Spyware removal utilities dont always fix all problems Larry. If you would like me to check your Hijack This log I am happy to do so. You can download the latest version here (http://degs.cybertechhelp.com/files/hijackthis.exe). Post your log in this thread if you would like it checked.

Question is "How big is your .PST file"?

How much RAM? Norton SW hogs a ton.

Try "CleanUp" @ cleanup.stevengould.org
