Ok my sister inlaw was over to her ex's house he out of town so she's taking care of the place.
So heres what happened she got there and found that the pilot light was out of the furnace,so she went to light it and boom it blows up in her face,so she comes over here and she red as red can get, so even before she comes in I look her over and tell my wife good bye, so off to the hospital they go
My wife just called and said they took her straight up to the burn ward, so I don't know if they have admitted her or not.
now my question is who pays for this my ex brother inlaw home owners insurance or my sister inlaws insurance.
im sure the bills going to big because the burns are on both hands and arms and face.

Chris, I don't have a clue as to who pays what, but my sympathies certainly go out to your sister-in-law. I've had 2 very close friends who were very badly burned, and I've never seen hell like they went through. I don't think there's anyone braver than those who have to endure the healing process. I will keep her in my prayers.

Irons, just let me say I second all of what Audone said, it must be terrible for you all at the moment, I sure hope things work out for the best pal.

I'd first try the home owners ins but they might say it's her fault for not making sure it was off before trying to light it if she didn't turn it off, but anyway I'd still try that one first. Hope she is OK. I've been burned and it wasn't pleasant and very painful.

they got home and she has second degree burns on the back of her hand and maybe third on the fold between the pointer and the thumb, her face is like a really bad sunburn she has no eyebrows hair or eyelashes her hair on her head has several rows burned away, but on the bright side they told her she could work as long as its not a factory job which it is.
so my ex brother in law wanted to know if she got it lit,She was a little mad over that statement.

The very first thing they need to do is have the gas company come out & check that furnace.
Something is very wrong there. It should never have done that.
His home owners should pay.. Just like if someone trips on your side walk... Your insurance has to pay...

Wow, glad she is okay - enough to be out of the hospital, anyway.....don't know about the insurance really, but W4's answer sure sounds logical to me.

Like w4che said. Make sure to get a written report from the gas co.

I think I'd be a bit peeved with that kind of statement from the ex also.

It sounds like she's going to alright, (I hope!)

My 2¢. The homeowners insurance.

Generally Homeowners insurance covers injuries to guests in the home. But. . . . if they explosion was caused by a guest. . . . well, it may be a bit of a battle and she may end up paying it.

Buzz' word is correct. And the key word is guest. An added key word would be invited guest. Be it a suggested invitation or a passive invitation. Such as was she asked to drop by the house and check on things.
Or, in the opposite direction did she just have a key and enter the house against the owner's expectations.
Since they are "ex" the insurance company will hook onto the guest vs. busy body issue.
