I am running Win2kPro.
Quite often when I reboot, everything loads fine with the cursor working but I cannot access anything including the start button. I try ctr/alt/delete and shut down running programs but still no help.
I cold reboot a couple of times and finally get the white screen saying to restore active desktop - I do this and every thing is back to normal. That is the reason I think it may have something to do with active desktop but I am not sure.
I have run updated Spybot, AdAware, Spysweeper and update NAV-find nothing remarkable..
Thanks

mmm, something odd going on there for sure.
First thing I'd do is make sure your graphic drivers are bang up to date, secondly I'd try rolling back any installations or hardware changes you've made recently nd finally, a HijackThis log may well be worth posting. Hop over to the cybersafety forum and have a little read of the stickies explaining how to post HJT logs.

Good luck.

I have the same problem- cannot access anything including the start button.
reinstalled Win2K but problem reoccured after 2nd day. suspecting virus or mismatch in code with other software. I have reformated my harddrive reinstalled Win2K and now very carefully going to install program by program.
Still not satified the problem is solved.

Hey chuckL, welcome to CTH
As you go through adding each application, it might well be worth taking a little squint at your device manager. See if anything suddenly comes up with a conflict.
