Russian font issue -- wrong size
Dear friends:
My wife is editing her Russian translation of a French novel. The original text was typed using the ER-Bukinist 1251 Cyrillic fonts in MSWord 6 about six years ago. The problem is that when she tries to replace a character with the same or another character, the new character is smaller in size. Please see screenshots below: http://www.websher.net/temp/kto1.jpg http://www.websher.net/temp/kto2.jpg Look for the word "kto" on the third line of the first paragraph. You can see what happens by comparing the second screenshot with the first. As you can see, the font changes to Times New Roman automatically even when I try to use ER Bukinist 1251. Is the solution for Word97 the same as for WordXP? Would really appreciate your help. Thank you. Benjamin Last edited by Delphi123; June 17th, 2005 at 06:05 AM. |

Benjamin, I notice on the second (faulty) shot, the keyboard input locale is set to English, on the first (working) shot it's set to Russian.
Was that deliberate? Have you tried it with it set back to Russian?

Dear friends:
I found the solution from an expert on my Slavic list. Turns out that the original was typed in Word 6, long before the advent of Unicode. It used a Cyrillic Windows 1251 font. The solution: I used my Character Set Converter from Fingertip to convert it from Windows 1251 to Unicode. That was it. Took about ONE second. My thanks to everyone who wrote in to help. Benjamin |
