We have the best bait car for idiots like that one.
Parked in obvious place, keys in it and ready to go.
1-4 guys pile in and away they go but not for far.
It's wired with remote control feature that kills the engine and locks the doors.
The undercover cops just roll up (cautiously, of course) and apprehend the idiots. There is video around on these kind of stings but haven't chance to look.
The only other thing I suggest, short of just remotely blowing up the car, is to have the car fill with tear gas and let them choke for a few minutes first.
Gotta love it.
Lived in Southern California, Vista, 35 miles North of San Diego. Beautiful place.
Anyway I was awakened to some noise and 3 guys were trying to steal my neighbor's, and best friend's, car. Like the idiot I am, I ran out in by bathrobe with a baseball bat. One guy had his back to me and I hit him in the neck.
He went down as the driver was trying to get out and run. I busted his knee.
The other fellow just kind of went along with what I suggested. Had all three in the street face down, one was crying....boo-hoo, while wife was calling 911. After I waited over an hour, I got what ID I could and told them to beat it limping, crawling or whatever. Cops turned up 90 minutes after that.
Because of high car theft in that part of country, it's gotten so it's not a big priority. Cop told me I was in danger with what I did. I told them the danger was a lack of quicker response time from them. Sheeesh!!!
I have a bumper sticker that says "Ain't Scared" right over my Vietnam Veteran sticker.
Don't you feel safe knowing loonies like me are around.

Darth, way to go!!! Even if the cops didn't get there, those guys were hurting when they left. I missed Nam but had a lot of friends that went. April of 1973 the draft was ended any my birthday was #2! Lesson learned: don't mess with a Nam vet!!
