I'm trying to perform remote support to a network of 5 Pc's (running xp home and pro). They all have static addresses assigned (192.168.1.3, 20, 35, 40, 52).

The location has Cable based internet access from Comcast and all Pc's have Internet access.

They all have PcAnywhere (ver 10.5) installed as a host with a user(me) added with the same user id and password.

In PcAnywhere, I have assigned incrementing IP addresses to the 2nd - 5th Pc.

I have added the assigned incrementing ports to port forwarding on the Linksys Befsr81 router and also in port triggering.

I can only access the first Pc (192.16.1.3). If I log into PcAnywhere using 255 in the last node, I should see all Pc's (hosts turned on waiting to be accessed). I only see the 1st one.

Can anyone help? This is driving me crazy.

Thanks,

Tony

try putting the router in DMZ and give it the ip for that pc and then try connect.

i run a network of 22 pc's and i have them all (xp pro) using remote desktop and I love it. :)

Yes, Windows remote assistance would work, but the user would have to be there when I log on. Most of the time they are gone.

I need to be able to log on anytime. Is there a way to get remote assistance to work in that manner without having the user request my help each time and be there?

Regarding the DMZ, I'm assuming your mean adding the rouer wan IP to this zone. Doesn't that open another security hole? What's the safest way to protect it if I did that?
Thanks,

Tony

Never used that software but you should be able to provide a port with the IP.

Setup the port forwarding in the router
ISP-IP:PORT
When you goto 81.81.18.18:5003 you will be forwarded to 192.168.1.3
81.81.18.18:5020 = 192.168.1.20 etc.

Tony you have come tot he right place. :) I have fought with Remote Desktop and the fact a user has to accept BUT no more. :)

make sure "FAST USER SWITCHING" is off
hxxp://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/accessibility/fastuserswitching.mspx

and you can log in as any user that has admin/remote access rights.

Users on my machines will be plugging away and "boot" they r gone when I log in LOL

For every machine you have to change the listening port for the Remote Desktop.

If you need help let me know. :)

Thanks for the reply.

When I log onto a pc, if the user is already logged on and doing something, sometmes thay have a problem are are requesting me to look at it with them, so I really should not be creating a user session, but attaching to their current session and sharing the keyboard and mouse.

Do you have any other suggestion on how I can do it?

Thanks,

Tony
