View Full Version : Pop-up Plague
Popupplague

Hello, All:
For 5 days, we have been battling a plague of pop-ups (with an occasiona virus thrown in for good measure).
We had only Norton's Anti-Virus installed in the beginning. Apparently, some of this invadeware eats Norton's for lunch (and everything else).
We have deployed one spyware killer after another, all to no avail. The invader list is long and if I could find one of the authors, just one, I'd feel a lot better after that meeting was adjourned.
We have Ad-aware, Spybot, Xoftspy, Killer something or other, and Microsoft's own AntiSpyware Beta1. Nothing stops these $@%%& things. I've used GoBack (in the beginning - can't now because we've squeezed in some production) and Restore.
They've got me. I need backup. Reinforcements. Super-heroes. Hell, I'll even use torture and wmds if you can find me a culprit.
Help.
Popupplague.

Some one else with more experience with hijack this can better advise you on this, but I would get rid of the google toolbar for one, and then open up the services console in admin tools and disable the messenger service (that should get rid of alot of your pop-ups)

OK, thanks. I did remove the Google toolbar and Messenger was already disabled when I went to the Services Console to check. I'll see what happens. Appreciate your help.

The log posted above you reply was in response to following AnnMarie's explicit instructions. Is posting the log here not the right thing to do? I'll look for the Cyber Safety Forum and post it there. Thanks.

Couldn't find "Cyber Safety forum" button anywhere. Couldn't post HijackThis log, therefore. What am I missing?
