Hi,

Is there any setting anywhere which can be set so the modem does look for a dialing tone before attempting to dial out? (using an old dialup connection type @ 52K).?

Reason being is ihere in the Uk the major phone company allows a free answer service and the recipient knows when he/she has a message when the dial tone changes to something different. At this time the modem will not dial out 'cos it does not hear the correct dial tone even though it would work?

Your expert knowledge is once again called upone.

Cheers

Hi buddy.... can you not pick up your messages before connecting to the net? That way the tone would be correct. I am not aware of any other setting. ;)

If I understand correctly, you want the modem not to wait for a dial tone before dialing.

In Windows XP, go to Control Panel>Phone and Modem Options>Modems tab, select the modem, click the Properties button, go to the Modem tab and, finally, you're there. Uncheck the box to disable "Wait for dial tone before dialing."

In Win98, Control Panel>Modems, select the modem, click the Properties button and that option is on the Connections tab.

Miz,

Thank you very much for that information without asking the obvious...

Dammit,

I was asking the question on behalf of a relatives friend. I asked that same obvious question ... guess there's just no pleasin' folk!
