I want to connect two PC's together. They have LAN adaptor cards and I have just bought a crossover cable off Ebay.

The cable has one blue connector and one grey connector. Before I spend a day running the cable under floorboards etc, can somebody tell me if this cable needs to go a certain way round, ie which computer does the blue connector plug into? :dizzy:

They should be both the same at either end.[like this]

edit; see below for actual colours of wires and positions.
I guess I should've been more specific.:dizzy:

Howdy:

As long as it is a Cat5 cable and you are SURE it'[s a crossover cable, it doesn't matter at all which end plugs into which computer !!

Thx. for the help Murray.

DickeyDongle, as Murray said it doesn't matter what end of the cable you connect to each device. You may want to do a sanity check to make sure that you did get a crossover cable. The wiring for a crossover cable should look like: http://www.cybertechhelp.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=319

and the wiring for a straight through cable should look like: http://www.cybertechhelp.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=318
