Reformatting Win2000

Hello,

I'm currently using Win2K but I need to reformat. What do I need and how do I complete this task? Thanks!

Howdy and welcome to CTH:

Boot into BIOS and make sure the first boot device is set to the cd-rom..

pop your Win2000 cd into the drive, save the change to BIOS and exit..

Win2000 is self-loading so, just follow the prompts..

BTW.. this will only work with an original Win2000 cd.. copied or burnt disks work a bit differently!!

I am having issues reinstalling as well...exactly how do I do this
"Boot into BIOS and make sure the first boot device is set to the cd-rom.."

Maybe I am doing something wrong. I have restored other systems before with no trouble
When I put my CD in it goes to Norton Ghost..then I am lost

Welcome beachdreamz,

Depending on the system you have there are several ways to boot up into the BIOS to setup your boot sequence.

What kind of pc is it? IBM/Dell etc
On bootup now does it say "Press a key" to enter setup?

Watch your screen as it is booting.. It will say something like "press <delete> to enter setup".. That's BIOS.. From there, check the various heading for the boot area..

Or, just check the manual.. it will tell you in there where to find it..

Sorry to sound so clueless. I guess I've used my own terminology so long I don't know the proper wording.
I can either hit F8 with the cd in the drive and it takes me to the CMOS screen or hitting delete brings up a black screen where it loads into norton ghost.
When I bought the pc i didnt get a copy of the orignal win2000 so the store gave me these 2 cds to reinstall. With no instructions. They are trying to get me to bring the pc to them (so they get services fees) Grrr

Is the Norton Ghost still in the CD-drive?

Well as long as the cd's you have are the proper restore cd's then all you have to do is follow the prompts to restore your pc back to the settings you had when you got it.

Is there any menus/prompts?

I cant seem to get anywhere in the norton ghost. I choose from disk and then keep hitting enter but get no where. Once I did get it to start cloning (??) but then an error came up with an invalid file. I had to restart the pc

Sounds like they used Norton Ghost to make an "image file" of your system..

I have never used Ghost so I really can't tell you how to go from there but I will ask some of the other Mods to see if they can help..
