ok, my home computer is wired to my SBC "wireless gateway". my laptop is wireless at work. so I bring my laptop home to conect, it sees the router but wont let me connect. I then installed the SBC software which didnt work and further more screwed up my connection when I got back to work so I did a restore point to the previous day and every thing is fine. So, I guess my question is, when I take this laptop home again, how do I configure it let me on at home and the current work conection

There is a pretty cool little free app that will help you out with this issue. It's called netsetman "net setting manager" and it will let you setup the info for connecting at work then create another profile for your home connection. That way when you come home from work and want to get online at home you just fire up netsetman pick what profile you want and wha la! You can find it for download HERE (http://www.itecnix.com/show.php?pg=./software/netsetman/netsetman.php) Before you set it up however I would like to see you get connection from home first. Now you say it can see the router I'm guessing you mean the SSID right? When you see the SSID and try to connect to it what does it do any errors? Also is dhcp enable on the router?

Ok just for now while testing make sure the firewall on the laptop is off before you try to connect at home. Also make sure your router isn't using WEP or WPA and that dhcp is enable. Some routers that are wireless even make you turn the wireless option on and off so make sure its not something simple like that.

I had the same problem when I got SBC DSL. I setup my desktop computer and everything was running fine. When I tried setting up my Dell laptop I had so many problems getting it to work. It would say connection was good but when I would click the IE icon it wouldnt connect. What I did was:

Go to Tool>Internet Options

Delete Cookies
Delete Delete Files
Clear History
On the homepage field enter somthing like www.yahoo.com (http://www.yahoo.com) or www.msn.com (http://www.msn.com)
this helped me out. I actually emailed a Dell rep. and this is what the email told me to do. I hope this works like it worked for me. Let me know what happens.
