Securing my Wireless G Router...

hey all...i got a linksys wireless g router, and i have the wireless pretty well secured up...but when using a wired connection, if i goto shields up to test the built in firewall..i fail on all counts. i have the firewall enabled, and this thing is supposed to have NAT and SPI..but im not sure what to do to get them doing their jobs better.

any suggestions??

What mod number and ver is the router? Example "WRT54G ver 2". Also have you updated your computer to SP2?

If you log into the routers config via a browser click the Secruity tab accross the top and look at:

Firewall Protection: Enable Disable make sure its enable
Block Anonymous Internet Requests
Filter Multicast
Filter Internet NAT Redirection
Filter IDENT(Port 113)
All those should have a check mark in the box. Inder the application and gaming tab make sure that DMZ is disabled. Under the Adminn tab make sure remote management is disable. Run a new scan and see what you come up with. You may want to update the firmware on the router if its out of date too.

mugsy what exactly does shields up report when you run a scan? Also what ports are you doing scans on? All ports, service ports, file sharing? Are the ports reporting closed stealthed or open?

running scans on all. they can see my internal ip's. im responding to ping requests. most ports are reporting closed, some are open, some are stealth.

when i had isa running, i was completely stealth, no ping requests answered and they couldnt see my internal nat....so i know im vulnerable with just this linksys nat / spi firewall.

hmmm thats very interesting. I hooked up a WRT54G that I have onhand and ran a scan with a wired computer and everything came up stealth. What ver firmware are you using? Also how is the computer connected to the router to be exact what port do you plug the cat5 into?
