Hello, I am having trouble getting my wireless card on computer 2 to connect to the internet via my existing wireless linksys router running on computer 1. Here are some details:
- Running Windows XP
- Linksys wireless-B router on computer 1 is running with cable hi-speed. I can connect to the internet no problem.
- New Zonet wireless-G&B card (model ZEW 1601) in computer 2 which previously was running on dial-up.
- Installed Zonet driver as first step, rebooted then turned off machine before plugging in the new card. Computer 1 recognized as new hardware and I followed the installation wizard.
- When click on "Network Connections" the card is showing up under the "LAN and High-Speed Internet" heading as enabled.
- When I ping the computer 1 I get the following:
IP Address: 192.168.1.100
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1
- When I ping computer 2 with wireless card I get:
IP Address: 169-254.117.183
Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1
- I have disabled the "Use Windows to configure my wireless settings" under the "wireless networks" tab in properties for the wireless card.
Please help as I have limited experience networking!
Cheers

First of all, I'm happy to see that I'm not the only poker (http://www.google.com/) fan here... He He He ;)
Now, you wrote that computer 1 is connected to the router with cable.
Try to check in your router web access software, if the wireless connection
Is available, maybe it's closed, because the IP that the other computer is showing indicates on self IP definition
When you open the wireless card program on computer 2, do you get signal? do you see your local wireless network ?

If I open the wireless card program on comp2 it tells me that it is connected to my linksys router and the signal is excellent. When I click on IE I get nothing but "the page cannot be displayed" message.
When I type in ipconfig/all I get...
Windows IP Configuration
Host Name: john1
Primary Dns Suffix:
Node Type:Unknown
IP Routing Enabled:No
WINS Proxy Enalbed:No
DNS Suffix Search List:slnt.phub.net.cable.rogers.com

Autoconfiguration Enabled:Yes
IP Address:192.168.1.100
Subnet Mask:255.255.255.0
Default Gateway:192.168.1.1
What do you suggest?

When I typed in ipconfig/all I meant on computer1 with the router up and running.

Computer1 seems ok what output do you get if you do ipconfig /all on computer 2. From the above post it looks like an isp ip address "169.254.117.183". If you have dhcp enable on the router then you should get an ip from it something like 192.168.1.102 so make sure dhcp is enable in your router and then make sure under lan settings for computer2 that you have "obtain ip address auto" checked same for dns.

ok well from the above info things sure do seem interesting. If you have obtain ip address auto and the same for dns then the output of ipconfig /all should say
Dhcp Enabled:Yes
Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes
Seems to me that its not pulling an address from the router. In the command line box if you do ipconfig /release then ipconfig /renew do you get the same old info of will it actually grab a new address? Do you have any firewalls running?
