XP home-XP home "not accessible" help

I have tried to set up a network at home but whenever I try to access the other computer on the network I get the "<computer> is not accessible error and then it says "network path not found." I am able to share an internet connection between the two computers though. Can someone help please? Thanks

One more thing to check when using XP, is that the 'Computer Browser' service is running on at least one machine.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by simple file sharing (I have enabled sharing on a test folder). Windows firewall disabled but I am running Zonealarm on both computers. Workgroup has the same name on both computers and I have created identical log-ons on both computers

For TEST purposes, turn off the firewalls and try to see if it works. BTW, are you using the free version of ZA?

Not to butt in here as you are getting help from two of the best! On the computer that "won't" see the other have you gone into ZA and put the ip address of the computer you want to connect with in the trusted zone?

Yeah I've done that too. The thing I noticed about that IP address is that it says its manally configured whereas the other detects settings. You guys have been great. Thanks

Okay another problem. I've just downloaded some files from Windows Update and now my network isn't working (again I can still connect to the Internet through the client computer). The three files I've downloaded are:

Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - July 2005 (KB890830)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB901214)
Security Update for JView Profiler (KB903235)

I assume that's the problem because that is the only change to the network I have made

What isn't working? MAke sure that the XP firewall isn't running? Having two software firewalls running on the same PC is looking for trouble.

I can "see" the computer but everytime I try to click to access it, I get the not accessible error as before. I have not changed any other settings so my XP firewalls are turned off on each computer
