connecting printer to network

I have been trying to connect my printer to my other pc via a wired router, but it doesn't work. To set it up I went to the control panel and when selecting to add a printer, I chose the option 'local printer attached to this computer'. I then followed the instructions and apparently completed adding the printer, although when I asked it to print out the test page, a dialogue box came up saying that there is an error with the printer. I have tried several times in adding the printer again, and it still doesn't work.
the printer is hp deskjet 840c if that helps.

If you tried to add the printer onto the wireless computer then you need to check the other selection "A Network Printer or a printer connected to another computer". You need to make sure that you have the printer shared on the other PC that it is connected to. Now I am assuming this is the way you have it setup, since you didn't provide much information. However if you have printer with a wireless connection you will still need to check the same selection. The only time that you select the "Local Computer" option is when it is directly physically connected to the PC you are setting it up on. Hope this helps.
