Hey everyone,

new to the forum and really need someones help. I recently have been having problems access programs that use the internet. My internet explorer works fine, but other programs I use such as Ultimate Bet Poker client and a couple p2p programs they won't work. When trying to access these programs it acts like the servers are down, but for the poker client there is no possible way the server has been down for over a week. I recently had a few trojans which I got Mcafee and got rid of those. I tried taking off the Mcafee security system while on the computer thinking maybe that had sopme kind of blockage to certain internet programs but with no avail. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Brian

If you're using Windows XP, you'll also need to allow these applications in the Windows Firewall. Do you have a home network using a router? Most routers also have built-in firewalls, which you will have to configure to allow these apps to work.

my firewall is turned off, and I don't use a router. It is bizarre everything was working fine a couple of days ago, but now only thing that connects to the internet is Internet Explorer...

The only other explanation I can think of is some kind of software blocking all the ports except what's required for Internet. Malicious software would unlikely be the cause, but try checking for it anyway. Also make sure you don't unknowingly have any other security software running.
