My computer froze the other day.
When I rebooted it it has been stuck on the Intel Desktop Board logo screen. How can I fix and get my computer to boot up again?
Any suggestions??
Thanks, Dwayne.

Howdy and welcome to CTH:

You can do an over-the-top reinstall. Boot up with the XP CD in the drive and let Setup run. Go past the "C" and "R" repair options by presssing Enter just as if you're doing a clean install and you'll eventually get an option to "Repair an existing installation". That's the one you want. If it asks about formatting you've gone wrong, so start over.

You'll get to keep your existing apps & settings, but you need to re-install SP2, Windows Updates & any unsigned drivers afterwards. NOTE: Be aware that you'll lose any protection from Blaster / Sasser type worms. Don't go online without a firewall, whether the built in Windows one or 3rd party.

I put the windows cd in the drive and shut the computer down.
I waited for awhile and then turned on the pc.
It came up at that same screen for the Intel Desktop Board, and nothing else.

Try booting into BIOS and make sure the first boot device is set to the cd-rom..

Okay.. when the system first starts, do you get a POST screen - memory check, searching for boot record, etc??

Also, the manual you should have received with your system should document how to get into BIOS and where all the settings are and how to change them!!

The video card info screen comes up briefly and then goes into the Intel Desktop Board screen and then stops there.

Okay.. that screen would tell you how to get into BIOS.. Normally it is the <delete> key so, as soon as you boot the computer, start tapping the <delete> key..

It is currently saying Entering SETUP. How long should it take??

It shouldn't take very long normally..

I keep trying and it says that network is selected as the first bootup device. I can't figure out how to get the CMOS Setup Utility screen to come up and stay up so I can change the device.

Is this a laptop or a desktop unit??

If a desktop, power down and open the case.. Pull the CMOS battery for about 10 minutes.. Put it back in and reboot..

Is the cd you are using an original or a copy you or someone made for you (different setup procedures)..

Also, how old is this system as well as the make and model??
