Hi
Scott you might also try posting under hardware and overclocking. By the way what kind of scanner is it, and is it parallel poort or a usb scanner. If it is a usb scanner you probably won't be able to run it under windows 3.1 as there is no scanner support.

What's a parallel port and a usb port? How do I know which one I got? The guy at Stples said it would work. It's a Microtek scanner. It's brand new. I just paid $300 for it. there has got to be a way to make it work.

FrostyPhrog
September 19th, 2000, 05:43 AM
Hi
Scott the parallel port is where your printer plugs in. A usb plug is much smaller about an inch by and inch or so. If it is a parallel port than it should plug in where your printer is plugged in. Like I said if it is usb than you won't be able to use it in win 3.1. Sorry

But if I plug it into where the printer is how do I print? I've tryed plugging it in everywhere. It doesn't fit well it's real loose and wobbles. Man maybe I should take it back! The guy at Staples told me it would work!

No I'm not joking! I really want to get this thing running but I'm having trouble, honest. I think I've rebooted my system like 40 times plugging the scanner in everywhere, nothing seems to work. I called Tech support for the scanner and they told me it was a hardware issue but they wouldn't tell me any more. I called Staples to talk to the guy who sold it to me and he's off for the night. I'm lost. I wanted to get the scanner running so I can scan some pictures and upload them to my email account, which was my next question... how to do that. But if I can't get them scanned it's all pointless.

USB is that one thingy where you plug the thingy into the other thingy and the other thingy is USB too so it makes it hot-swappable so if you have USB you need windows 85 cause it's got USB or better yet get a Mac they kick tooshy.

That was a run-on... hope it helped though. http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
