Whats the most efficient way to clean up window2000?
(for cleaning up the harddrive and registry)
Or perhaps, someone knows a better way to improve
the OS performance? (other then overclocking/reformatting) =)

Basically, I'm trying to find as many ways to clean up my HD's as
possible, so I can get rid of any junk hiding in temp folders or the
registry. I'm hoping this will improve the performance in the
process. (And yes I plan on defragging after cleaning up the HD)

Thanks.

BTW: Thanks for adding the preview option to the form! =)

One way to improve performance is to stop applications from starting at bootup. An easy way to manage your startup programs, as Win9x users know is msconfig.

Unfortunately, Windows 2k does not come with msconfig.... but XP does and msconfig.exe from XP works fine and dandy with Windows 2k.

You can download it here: http://www.thetechguide.com/downloads.html

I put the executable on my desktop and run it whenever I need to change anything.

Be careful with it though. You definately do not want to turn off the wrong service or you will be in a world of hurt. I also wouldn't mess too much with the rest of the tabs, but using this app to limit the startup programs work just fine.

As far as cleaning out Win2K, I always remove all the user profile that do not need to be there. I usually keep just mine and the administrator's. I also clean out the Temp folder, Cookies folder, and the Temporary Internet Files folder.

This (http://members.tripod.com/ramblingsoftheoran/tutorials/cleanup-hdd.htm) might help as well.

Other ways to make Windows 2000 run smoother is to turn off window animations such as the fade effect.

You can also download and run TweakUI (http://members.tripod.com/ramblingsoftheoran/downloads/tweakui.exe), and install this reghack (http://members.tripod.com/ramblingsoftheoran/downloads/Menu.zip) which makes your menu's faster. These are things that I do to make Windows 2000 Run smoothly. I hope this helps.
