There are different issues here.
If your ISP assigns you a dynamic IP then your IP is probably changing on every reboot or alest every lease renew time (8-12 hours).
If your ISP uses a Cache/Proxy server then changing your IP may not make a difference as some sites record the Cache servers IP and not your direct IP.
If you still want to change it then you can use a Proxy Server. Checkout programs such as Complete Anonymous Web Surfing or Steganos Internet Anonym

It would depend on your ISP.
MultiProxy used to be free, but not sure if the Proxy lists are upto date.
There are a few online sites that offer anonymous surfing.

i found this guid online on how to change it...lol i know it likely wont make a difference if i change it but i just wanna verify sumthing
Start => Control Panel => Network and Internet Connections => Network Connections => Local Area Connection => General => Properties => Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) => Properties => (Select Use the following IP address) => Pick something ranodm and original => (If you did this your internet shouldnt work lol) => Then Goto Start => Run => Type in "CMD" => Ok => Type in "ipconfig /release" => Then type in "ipconfig /renew" => It should work If it doesnt then keep repeating "ipconfig /renew"
PS: Theres a space between ipconfig and /renew and /release
PSS: All capitals for "CMD"
PSSS:Everything in Quotations is just refering to the words dont add quotations
PSSSS: I like PS's
PSSSSS: Any more help with Computers and getting thigns to work MSN me !
but...
i thought those only worked on dynamic IP adresses, such as Dial up, not cable like comcast, or through a wireless router... i dont ave dial up what can i do...and whats the subnet mask and the gateway thing? what do i do there?

Hi,
Dynamic IPs are not just for dial up!
Most ISPs use DHCP for home internet connections unless someone pays for a static IP, so you most likely you have a dynamic IP.
If you pick a random IP and try to use it will most likely NOT work and you risk upsetting your ISP and losing your service.
Doing an ipconfig/release ipconfig/renew will most likely result in getting the same IP address back. In order to get a new IP address, you need to be how line for quite a bit of time (possibly over a day). Most DHCP server from ISP keep track of the IPs assigned to various MAC addresses and will keep giving the same IP address to the same MAC.
the default gateway is the network device to which all network packets should be sent, unless there is a more specific rule specifying where the packet should be sent.
This is usually the IP address of your router (if you are using one), or the nearest router on your ISPs network. You don't want to mess with this value either, because if you do you will break your internet access.
netmask is a mystical number used by network geeks to confuse the heck out of normal people :) Seriously, it is a mask that defines which bits of the IP addresses define the network number and which bits identify a particular computer on the network. typically the mask is 255.255.255.0 (255 is the max value between the ".s"). This mask indicates that the first 3 octets (the numbers between the dots, each consisting of 8 bits) specify the network and that the last octet identifies the host. Again, this is a value that should not be messed with, if you do you can end up with some very strange network problems.
PS. A space is not needed between ipconfig and / (its just easier to read)
CMD can be lower case
One PS is enough for me ;)

what does how line mean, off-line? and when you say losing my ip, like me breaking my internet connection and never being able to get online? also if i did change it i should put my subnet mask as 255.255.255.0?
lol would you even reccomend this? i have been banned ata number of forums so would this solve that too? (lol dont worry nothing serious jsut for spam which i cant help ppl accuse me of spamming for jsut typing lol do i need an explenation on why im laughing?)
btw thanks for the help so far im kinda stupid :P

oops, sorry about the how line, I meant off-line.
If you just pick a random IP you will not be able to get online till you switch back to DHCP. If you happen to grab an IP that was usable, you may get disconnected by your ISP. Companies frown upon people highjacking IP addresses.
Follow the basic rule. If it ain't broke don't fix it.
(If you took the time to write full words and sentences , it would be easier to understand and would cause less problems on the forums ;) )

sorry, I get use to the various terms and forget that everyone isn't exposed to them. DHCP is Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. It is what is used to assign dynamic IP addresses.

z1p is da man! Nice breakdown of networking protocol buddy :) Skatepopwar you seem to have a few questions about networking in general but are toying with ideas you aren't sure about. Believe me its fun to tinker and we all do it from time to time but do be very careful. I have seen people get into big time trouble "jail time" even for things as simple as port scanning a network. Simple use of an ip that you aren't paying for is more than any isp would need to bring charges and it puts you in a very actionable position. If you really want to tinker and get some awesome info at the same time I suggest reading a few books. I'm sure the local books-a-million has what you need. I started with books on network protocol tcp/ip ect. Then moving on to dns and bind will open up so many doors for you. Just remember use what you know carefully and think before you act.
