Here's a Firefox Tuning Tweak probably worth looking at.

I've tried tweaking my browser (using this tweak) by changing some of the applicable values and compared to the infamous firefox tweak mentioned by Darrell Nortorn Blog (http://codebetter.com/blogs/darrell.norton/archive/2005/01/28/48720.aspx), I experienced very little change in page loading speed and all around performance. Others may have better luck!

If someone already beat me to the punch and already posted this, then...You get to read it twice! :D

Nearly everywhere you browse/navigate/surf to now, someone has a tip on tweaking Firefox and as previously intimated by JimmyLoveNYC, they're not all good tips. Some cause bandwidth issues meaning if we all tweaked Firefox to ridiculously high settings we'd burn some websites.

Of all the tweaks I've read and tested, the easiest I have found to implement and use comes in the form of a Firefox extension, Tweak Network. (http://www.extensionsmirror.nl/index.php?showtopic=1225&hl=tweak+network)

Firefox has a couple of hidden network settings. With this extension, you can tweak these settings, and you might be able to speed up the loading of web pages. You can also increase the maximum number of simultaneous downloads from a site (the default is only four).
Instead of changing each setting, you can also choose one of two profiles. The Power profile increases the maximum number of connections and turns on pipelining. The Default profile will reset the settings to the save, default values.

After installing the extension, you can find it in the Tools menu.

Have fun!
