Random Disconnection

I run Win xp home edition, 2.8ghz/512mb ram.

I use a small business connect ( dsl ). Worked fine until about a month ago. Now every 25-40 minutes I am disconnected..sort of. Sometimes the connection still lasts but transmits a very lwo amount of data. Like .0001 kbs. Other times it simply dies.

I unplug the modem and replug it in, and the connection works fine for the next 25-40 minuntes.

My sisters boyfriend recently got a cable connection so I networked that onto my computer to try that instead. It works fine for a bit as well..but it has disconnected me twice today in about the same amount of time. Leaving me really friggin lost and confused.

I have already tested the router and tried the connection without the router, I get the same result.

Is the computer I'm on somehow causing the connection to be interupted somehow? I'm not a veteran computer user but I know my fair share but I've never dealt with a problem like this.

I tried putting a new Ethernet card in and I get the same problem once again.

My DSL provider said it was my lines...but since even the cable has the same issue....it must be my computer somehow?

I need to try the connection on another computer for a long period of time to see if it works, as that is the last thing I can think of.

Any help is appreciated.

If you have Service Pack 2 (SP2) installed, Click Here to download the fix. Instructions for downloading and using the file are at the bottom of that page. It usually fixes the "limited or no connectivity" problem.

Have you scanned for spyware and viruses?

Three good, free spyware removal programs are Windows AntiSpyware, Spybot and Ad-Aware. I use all three.

If you don't have an up-to-date antivirus program installed to do a complete system scan, there are good, free online scans at Bit Defender, Panda and Housecall.

Well I'm clean of viruses, spyware...tried connecting modem on a shorter phone line in a different room and I get the same problem. I have tried other ethernet cables, same problem.

Another interesting Tidbit for you guys.

I run DSL and get this problem. My sisters boyfriends has his own cable connection..but here is the kicker..he is experiencing the same problem. Could this be related?

We are not on the same router, so it's not a router issue. I have tried hooking up without the router and still have the same problem.

By far this is the most annoying / challenging computer problems I've seen..

Help is appreciated.

Well I finally called my tech line and waited on hold for a bit only to find out that it is probably internal wiring. Can't come til the 3rd of august for some reason. Might switch to Verizon if they can get someone here sooner.

I'll let you all know how it turns out.
