Internet Explorer - deleting history

I have a problem with my MS Internet Explorer 6. It simply will not delete certain adresses. It just seems very randem which sites it won't delete, e.g. newgrounds.com and a sub-page of CNN.com. So everytime I write www.c ... in the adress bar, the computer suggest cnn.com.
What I've tried:
- clearing the history
- deleting cookies
- deleting temp. internet files (both manually and by using the shotcut in IE)
- Searched for all files containing "cnn.com" on my computer (no results found)
- run AdAware and antivirus scans a number of times (even though I doubt it has anything to do with spyware)

Anyone have any suggestions to what I could do?

Welcome

You also need to clear AutoComplete.
Goto Internet Options>Content>Auto Complete>

You could also try a free program like ccleaner to clear the relevant stuff.

Just a thought, are you closing and reopening IE after changing the settings? Sometimes that is required for the new settings to take affect..

i just re-started the computer - nada.
The fact that I'm not can't control a simple thing like this really makes me mad!
Any other ideas? (OTHER than formatting the computer or going FireFox, that is ) maybe some other free removing program?

I found this site http://www.software-comparisons.com/main_ratings.html but they all cost money (and they sound more like programs to cover up child porn, I mean this slogan "Surf ANYWHERE you want. NOBODY will know!" really gives me the creeps)

Just to make sure we're all on the same page here.

In Internet Explorer, you've clicked on Tools, then Internet Options, then the Content tab, then the AutoComplete button, unchecked "Web Addresses," clicked OK and clicked OK again (if you click the X to close the dialog boxes, the change will not be applied) to implement the change yet the address still tries to complete?
