And I may really feel like an idiot afterwards. But rather look like a moron now than a real stupid one later on. I know that deleting temporary files on your computer is something you should do. But I have a question about it. I was deleting some temp files last night (typed %temp% into my run feature) and I notice there are an awful lot of things in there. Most noticeably a bunch of things starting with REM and other used for various applications for msn (i.e. setup). Now I know that the .tmp files you can erase. But I ask is there anything that I should leave alone, or is most anything in this %temp% list safe to delete?

Windows sometimes forgets to delete temporary files it creates for its own use during a given session, these tend to pile up and take up diskspace. They are mostly safe to delete, but some such as the ones ending in DLL are essential for proper running of programs. If you are not sure, you can first back up the files (copy to another folder/location or CD) and then delete. Its important to regularly clean out temporary files and temp internet files also, and run a disk defrag as well.
As for a list, google led me here-

I did look at the list of things you can delete and went through those. But there a lot of files in here that to be quite honest, I have no clue what they are, or used for. As it is right now, there are 217 files taking up about 45MB of space. I know that is not likely good. Some files have a mark like (.cct or .res) I didn't delete them, and I definitely delete any .dll files. My observation though is that there a lot of files that have an icon that looks similar to what a browser window looks like (blue bar on the top and the three little icons in the top right corner) Most of these start with REM and have a number afterwards, some though just have a bunch of letters.
Anyway, any ideas?
