Hi folks, got a problem. I have a computer that needs to be restored. I have my product key, but my restore disk is corrupted. I have an emergency boot disk that we made when we first bought it. I never tried it so I dont know if it works. Also, we loaned this machine to a friend of ours and she loaded Windows ME on it. I want to at least get it working in somewhat original condition. I have checked with the manufacturer of this particular computer to see if there was anything they could do as far as a restore disk. No luck there. I have to be honest, Im dumb when it comes to dealing with computers. I need some serious step by step help on this one. Ive been looking all through this site for information on what to do. Maybe its there, or maybe Im just not quite sure what I supposed to make of what is there. Would someone be able to point me to a step by step guide to restoring my system?? I must say that this is a backup system that Im trying to restore. But I do believe that it would be worth it to get it running as intended...Im sorry for the super long post..Im kinda hoping it helped to explain what I want to do..:dizzy:

What make is the computer? One possible solution to your problem would be to get the Windows ME disk from your friend, along with the key code and re-install ME.
Here's a tutorial for formatting and installing a Windows operating system;

It is an hp4550z. It came equipped with Windows98se. To tell you the truth I despise Windows ME. I believe that its the glitchiest os in the windows family..I definately want to return it to it original condition or close to it. I know that I dont care if I have all the other software that came in the bundle..I just want to get this bad boy running. I dont want to buy a spare computer when I have one here..Im not using it to run a bunch of new programs anyway..I was thinking maybe networking with my newer emachines comp or for backing up files..thats about it..If I new it could handle XP..I would try to load it on, but I know this machine is pretty old by now. Just want to see how close I can get it to running perfect (for an old machine, that is)

If you don't have the Windows 98se disk you can get one from eBay for about $30-35 dollars. If you do buy it, make sure you're getting the full version and not the upgrade. Check them out here; http://search.ebay.com/Windows-98se_W0QQfkrZ1QQfromZR8
Hope this helps you out.
