ok i figured it out, it was quite obvious (of course) - the adapter is not compatible with my win98. soooo, it is compatible with win2000 and so is my computer, but i do not have win2000. anyone know where i can get it? or how i can update or whatever?

How did you ascertain that your adapter was not "compatible" with win98?
Seems to me that an adapter compatible with W2k should also be ok with win98.
