2 annoyances

1 - my cable connection dies after a period of inactivity, and I have
to reboot the get reconnected.

2 - My browsers (Moz1.7.8, Nav7.2, Opera8 - I won't use IE), followed by the mouse,
kbd, and ultimately the whole computer, all go into a total freeze up when visiting certain sites.
I can't even End Task. I have to use the "reset" button to get out of this

With some sites, there is never a problem; while others cause instant crash.

Any suggestions?

Sounds like you could have some malware on board. You can check to make sure over at the Cyber Safety forum. Be sure to read the sticky posts at the top and follow the directions for posting a Hijack This log.
