Need The Driver for an HP CD Writer Plus

Does anybody out there have the driver for an HP CD Writer Plus (CD-W54E)? This cd writer came off an HP Pavilion 6746C. I went to the HP website to find the driver but they no longer carry it. It is currently installed on an older computer with WIN 98 and it doesn't play right. It won't autoplay and media player doesn't play new music cds. I checked the device manager and there are no drivers installed for this but it says it doesn't need them. Could the problem be somewhere else? Are there any other options if I can't find the right driver?

HP CD Writer Plus

After some research, I discovered that the CD-W54E was manufactured by TEAC. On their website, they state that no drivers are necessary for Windows; only DOS.
I am unsure if this is an internal or external drive.
If it is internal, you might go into Setup (BIOS) to see if the drive is "recognized" on one of the IDE controllers.
Seeing the specs of the drive (4X4X24X), it seems to be pretty old. It may have failed due to age.
Also, you should check the power supply and data connections at the rear of the drive to be sure they are not loose, and that pin one of the data (IDE) cable is in the correct position.
One last idea is to uninstall the drive while in Control Panel (Add/Remove Hardware) then shut down the PC and disconnect the power and data cables from the drive.
Reboot with the drive still disconnected.
After Windows completely loads, shut down, then reconnect the power and data cables and see if Windows comes up with "New hardware found" during startup.
Best of luck,
Darrin

It was bought in 2001 but I know it works. When I re-installed WIN 98 on the computer, the autoplay started. It also started when I installed my ethernet card so I'm not sure what's wrong. It just will not autoplay with songs. I burned some songs on a cd and it will play them if I access the drive through "my computer", but when I want to play a music cd that was purchased from the store it will not play it. You can see media player playing it without any volume which is why I was thinking it was a software issue. Any other ideas? I appreciate the help.
