My desktop crashed badly. I can barely make it into Safe Mode and cannot do much there before it freezes up.

Configuration files cannot be read, cannot access cd rom for re-installation of Win 95.

I got a set of Win 95 on diskette because the A drive is the only one working. But the system will not accept the re-installation and asks for the original one. The more I try to fix it, the worse it gets.

Is there some way that I can use these diskettes and bypass error messsage that tells me to use the original? Do I need to reformat the drive and loose all of the info there? Can I somehow get the CD Rom working to use the original software? The system recognizes the CD Rom, but the operating software does not. I have tried to reinstall the cd drivers, but that won't work either.

HeIp!

Ouch.

Hello and welcome and my apologies for the delay in replying to you.

1st things 1st, lets see if we can boot up with CD-Rom support.
Go to the downloads page here at CTH and get the windows bootdisk (ignore the fact that it says 98).

Boot up with it and see if it finds that CD-Rom.

Then try windows setup from the CD.

The Floppy install will not be working because it is an older version of 95 than you have installed.
There may be a way we can fool it into working but I'd rather try the proper way 1st.
