Lots of problems with MS Money 2004
Hi,
I'm not really sure where to start but since i had a problem I decided to try the Help feature. However, when i select this i get a browser message saying "Action Canceled" if i refresh as it suggests I get "The page cannot be displayed". Apart from anything else i thought the F1 help was supposed to be downloaded on my computer not an internet link. Why am i getting this? Absolutley nothing like this on MS support site that i can find. Can it be reloaded from the original disk? If i put the disk in it simply opens the programme. Not very helpful. My original problem i have now figured out but i might need to try and access help in the future! Thanks Emma |

Hi Emma. Most Microsoft Help files are now in HTML format so what you see when you hit F1 is in essence an HTML reader similar to your web browser so that is why you will see similar messages to a web browser..
As far as fixing your problem, it sounds like Help was not installed with money so you'll need to run Money Set-up and install it from the CD. Open Windows Control Panel and click on Add/Remove programs and find Money and go through set-up and make sure On-line help is selected.

HELP!!!!
I tried reinstalling the programme but now cannot access any of my files! Any time I try to open them it says that it needs to convert them to the current version. Obviously they are current version files though! If you allow it to try, it then complains that it cannot open the file as it's either read only (it's not), not having permission (I have admin rights and it wasn't password protected), or my disk drive is write protected (it's saved on my hard drive!) As an alternative it suggests using a backup but when i try to restore them the same problems occur!! Help, help help!!! Emma |

Hi Emma.
That's not good. We did what Microsoft tells us to do: http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;135271 Have you done a windows update since you overinstalled? There may be a patch that needs to be re-applied? Also, can you double-check your MyMoney.mny file properties using Windows Explorer (right click, Properties) to make sure it's Windows file properties have not been set to read-only.

Hi, thanks for getting back to me.
Not done any recent updating of windows. It's all very strange. Have checked the files to see if they're read only but they're not. According to MS the error I'm getting can indicate an error in the money file that needs repairing. However i don't think this is the case because 1) There's more than one money file that's been affected 2) When i run file repair it doesn't find any errors and 3) I get the same message from backup files which were made when it was all working fine. Any ideas where i can go from here? Another problem is that I'm not entirely sure which version of Money I'm using. Not sure if it makes a difference but the box just calls itself MS Money with a sticker "New for 2005", the programme About option says it's version 14.0... copyright 2004, yet it saved itself in the directory MS Money 2005!! Not sure if this has any bearing on the situation but it makes it difficult to follow MS advice if I don't even know which instructions to follow!! Emma |

OK, well I think we need to take a couple of steps backwards before we get completely lost.
The problem has started since you completed an over-installation of Money (at my & M$ suggestion). There is now some confusion about what version was installed then over-installed. (p.s I believe 14.0 is Money 2005) You should uninstall Money (using add-remove programs). Reboot the PC. Then re-install Money from your CD media. Then visit Windows Update and see if there are any patches or service releases for Money 2005. Then try and open your files.

Hope I'm not being stupid here but when you say visit Windows Update for patches and service releases for Money 2005 where exactly do you mean?
I get kind of lost on MS.com and I can't see any downloads of this kind. Is it me? Sorry, Emma |
