Howdy:

Have you told Zone Alarm to allow their IP addresses or the computer access??

the modem and ethernet are in the trusted zone and also loopback adapter(whatever that is) zone alarm set these itself. I did try adding what I think were their ip addresses but I am ot sure if they were right. How do I get the ip addresses and don't they change sometimes?

They should never change if they are going through your system to get online..

What oprating systems are they using??

Control Panel>Networking

What are the settings in there for Tcp/IP, Subnetmask, DNS server settings and gateway settings??

Are these two system connected directly to your system through a hub or something??

I only have network connections in contol panel,I then get my modem and ethernet settings, but all that is on properties is a tick to say it uses tcp/ip.I don't really understand it all.I have a cable modem and a realtech ethernet card RTL8139 family pci fast ethernet nic.All woked fine with norton but my subscription ran out,so I got zonealarm.

Sorry,I think I have what you asked for now. These settings are from my pc-

ETHERNET

no tcp/ip, subnetmask 255.255.255.0, nothing by gateway settings and nothing for dns server.

MODEM

No tcp/ip, subnet mask 255.255.255.0, gateway settings 62.252.32.21, dns servers 194.168.4.100 + 194.168.8.100.

When going to the properties of both they both have a tick fof using tcp/ip.

Okay.. give one of the systems a tcp/ip of 192.168.181.1 and the other 192.168.181.2

Now, tell Zone Alarm to allow those IP addresses..

How do the two systems connect to your system?? If you are acting as the gateway (server), then you must have two NICs installed with one going to a hub or switch for the other two to connect to..

All I know is I am connected by my cable modem, my brother then put an ethernet card in and connected the two boys to this.Windows xp just picked it all up and it works. How would I obtain an ip address?

Well it sounds like you are using ICS because you don't mention a router in your network. They way you describe your setup there must be a switch box or hub at some point in the network. Zone Alarm free doesn't support ICS so you might want to think about using a different firewall. Alot of people say good things about Sygate Personal firewall its free and allows full ICS. and link to it can be found HERE (http://www.download.com/Sygate-Personal-Firewall-Pro/3000-10435_4-10238422.html ) I would un-install Zone Alarm then make sure everyone had internet access before trying out Sygate.

I think the cables go straight into the ethernet card, anyway I will take your advice and try spygate. Thanks again.

I have uninstalled zone alarm and put sygate on.All seems fine so far,I had to allow a few things I didn't understand but i am sure they were to do with my connections.I have done some scans and all seems good.

Thanks
